New domestic products through project funding
New products to be added to the selection in 2022
The project funding we have received not only enables more secure production, but it is also a significantly broader matter. Future Kotisäkki bags will be domestic and feature more advanced design and materials. The project enables the development and assessment of a circular economy perspective related to the product and material life cycle. Our company will become part of the Finnish and European circular economy system.
The societal significance of the circular economy is growing
Finland, and the EU as a larger entity, are leading a global development in which material flows will be utilized in a completely different way. Regulations and competition make it necessary for companies to utilize material flows more efficiently. A product made from the rPET recycled material we use will have an even more sustainable carbon footprint, and production will become more transparent and more easily accepted by the consumer. One of the goals of the project is to develop the product based on other Finnish circular economy materials.
International growth is a significant opportunity
We also gain many operational benefits from the new operating model. Product development is faster, the products are more unique, and they can more easily be made in desired quantities. All the aforementioned factors are the foundation for the growth we intend to pursue with these products, especially abroad. Domestically, we now have the opportunity to serve our retailers even better. As part of the project, we receive significant expert assistance, especially regarding growth objectives and the circular economy.

Form and grantor of project funding
The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and the guidance comes from the REACT-EU regulation. The broader goal of the development grant is to increase economic activity for recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. The regional emphases have been decided by the Government. The funding batch from which we have received support is intended for development activities, and its regional emphases in Southwest Finland include, among others, employment, the circular economy, internationality, and growth.
The notice of support and a summary of its content can be found on the Structural Funds website.
Official summary
Project name: SACCULI, lat. sack/bag
CIRCULAR SACK
Commercialization of completely new Kotisäkki products, manufactured in Finland from materials promoting the circular economy, for international markets.
We are starting the manufacturing of new products based on the circular economy, intended for international markets, in Finland. The production of the material required for the products takes place through the development of a subcontractor’s production line, by converting textile fiber into a non-woven fabric suitable for the purpose. We are among the first companies to use innovative Finnish circular economy fibers in product development and are developing a production method for non-woven fabric suitable for the purpose.
The goal is to strengthen the Finnish textile circular economy ecosystem and increase knowledge with partner companies on how material produced according to circular economy principles can be used for product design and commercialization of consumer products. In this project, we are looking for the best way to manufacture, cut, sew, dye, and print the non-woven fabric.
The project results in ready-made commercial circular economy products. Through the development work, Vilikkala will become part of the domestic and European circular economy ecosystem. The project will have employment effects in the future, it enables extensive international business, and provides information on the benefits of the circular economy for a company's business strategy.
