Project Cardboard - a craft material with a story
Project Board DIY Pack Gives New Life to Finnish Workwear
How about a crafting material whose story begins with Finnish workwear?
Vilikkala's new Project Board is a completely new DIY material for crafters, schools, adult education centers, handicraft enthusiasts, and lovers of creative work. Its raw material consists of discarded Finnish workwear, which has been broken down into fibers after industrial washing. In Vilikkala, the fibers are pressed into a strong and impressive board using heat and pressure.
The result is an exceptionally sturdy material sheet, approximately 500 g/m2 and 2 mm thick, which uniquely combines the workability of cardboard and the felt-like fiber structure.
More Than Ordinary Craft Cardboard
Project Board is not thin paperboard, but a robust material for creative endeavors. Its thickness makes it suitable for many applications where ordinary cardboard would bend or lose its shape.
The material is suitable for, for example:
- making card bases and greeting cards
- invitation cards
- scrapbooking
- mixed media works
- decorations
- wall and interior design projects
- miniature models
- building prototypes
- school projects
- art and craft projects
Cricut, Silhouette, and Laser Enthusiasts' New Favorite?
Project Board also offers an interesting alternative for digital crafters.
The material can be utilized, for example, in:
- Cricut machines (deep cut blade)
- Silhouette Cameo cutters
- crafting dies
- hobby-use laser cutters, such as xTool
- various cutting and marking applications
It is always recommended to test the settings with your own device, as the thickness and fiber structure of the material differ from ordinary cardboard.
Five Colors, Dozens of Possibilities
Project Board is delivered as a ready-made multicolored craft pack.
One pack contains:
- 25 A5-sized sheets
- 50 A6-sized cards
- five different colors
Thanks to the colors, one pack provides material for both children's crafts and more demanding handicraft and design projects.
A Material With a Visible Story
Many crafting materials only tell of color, size, and thickness. Project Board has more to tell.
When the material is used in school projects, craft courses, or personal creations, it also carries the story of circular economy, Finnish work, and the new life of materials.
Perhaps that is why Project Board is much more than a pack of cardboard.
It is an opportunity to create something new from a material that already has its own history.
Technical Specifications and Compatibility
Project Board is a special board made from recycled fibers, approximately 500 gsm and about 2 mm thick. The material is significantly thicker than ordinary craft boards and is particularly well-suited for various creative projects that require stiffness, durability, and an impressive surface.
Project Board works excellently with, for example:
- xTool laser cutters
- Glowforge devices
- other hobby and small laser cutters
- Cricut devices
- Silhouette Cameo devices
- die-cutting and cutting projects
- hand-cut craft works

Note on Device Power and Blades
Due to the material's greater-than-average thickness, optimal workability depends on the device, blade, and settings used.
For users of Cricut, Silhouette, and other cutting devices, we recommend using a Deep Cut, Knife Blade, or other blade designed for thick materials, if necessary.
For laser cutters, suitable settings vary depending on the device's power, speed, and material handling. We recommend always performing a test cut before starting the actual work.
Project Board is made from recycled textile fibers, which is why small natural variations may occur in the material's fiber structure and surface. These are part of the product's unique appearance and do not affect its performance.
