Vilikkala room dividers to the textile sorting center in Turku

Southwest Finland Waste Management’s (LSJH) textile sorting center and textile recycling shop Lemppari will officially open their doors on Wednesday, November 22. The space needed elements that would connect the shop and the sorting center. Through the room dividers, we were able to add a compelling story to complete the space. The gorgeous colors of the felt coverings come from hospital textiles.

Conveniently, the Monday of the opening week, November 20, is Circular Monday. It serves as a reminder to support circular economy services, just before the coming Friday, which is Black Friday—a day of consumption culture that is not quite as sensible. The purpose of the day is to highlight companies that repair, recycle, and utilize resources that were previously thrown away.

The circular economy is not just a trend; it must become an essential part of our everyday lives and business operations. Southwest Finland Waste Management (LSJH) has taken a significant role in coordinating the recycling of textile waste in Finland. Gradually, an ecosystem is emerging around these operations where textiles circulate efficiently according to their potential. Some of the textiles and garments end up being opened into fibers, for example, for Vilikkala’s felt products. If you are interested in the room dividers shown, please get in touch and we can plan together.

New Vilikkala room dividers made from recycled textiles

These room dividers are the first products in Finland made from opened textile waste fibers, and we are constantly developing our products for better quality and more versatile utility. Our mission is to assist companies in turning textile waste into a resource and part of their circular economy operations. The room dividers are manufactured entirely in Finland. The frames were produced by ADI Kalusteet Oy, the metal legs by Stremet Oy, and the felt by Vilikkala. The textile waste was opened into fiber by Rester Oy.

The fibers were opened from hospital textiles. The red color comes from paramedics' workwear, which also features shimmering reflective fabric. The green is from surgical staff textiles, and the dark blue from other hospital workwear. The turquoise is from cleanroom cleaning attire and protective clothing. The fibers are primarily polyester, but some are blends, meaning they also contain cotton. The fibers were organized by carding, and 30% new binding polyester was added in the process. At Vilikkala, the carded batting was calendered into felt using pressure and heat.

There are many useful services and beautiful products in the world. Vilikkala's textile services and felt products are also a part of our customers' circular economy journey toward a more resource-efficient future, for the benefit of the climate and biodiversity. We manufacture felt and various felt products from textile waste fibers. Felt with a story – Vilikkala
