Vilikkala CEO Jari as a guest on the Sustainable Textile Systems podcast

The circular economy needs disruptors – and doers

Jari Toivonen, the owner and CEO of the Vilikkala factory, who came as a guest on the podcast, promised to talk about the troublemakers. However, a discussion with Minna Halme, a professor of responsible business, on Independence Day led to a common understanding of the importance of locality for the circular economy and the Finnish economy. Jari is a practical implementer of the circular economy: At Vilikkala, discarded textiles are transformed into felt and new products. The company is growing fast and a carding machine would be particularly needed for equipment investments.

Podcast series on the circular economy of textiles

The textile industry is taking steps towards a circular economy. Pioneers are already enthusiastic about new materials and fiber recycling. However, this alone is not enough. We need to reduce the purchase of new products, relearn how to repair, and further increase the efficiency of reuse. How can this be done profitably while preserving both ecological and economic value? Researchers and company guests from the FINIX project discuss the topic. The Sustainable Textile Systems podcast is hosted by FINIX's interaction manager, Sini Suomalainen.
